Choosing the right therapy provider for your child

Choosing the right therapy provider to support your child with disability is an important decision. You may choose either NDIS registered providers or non-registered providers depending on how your child’s plan is managed but most importantly, your therapy provider needs to be the right fit for your child and your family.

We take a look at some of the steps you can take to find the right therapy provider who will support your child to meet their therapy goals.

It’s important to ask lots of questions of any potential therapy providers, for example:

  • How will you support my child to meet their therapy goals?
  • In was setting do / can you provide therapy?
  • Do you provide teletherapy if required?
  • What are your rates?
  • Do you have a waitlist?
  • What experience and qualifications does your team have?
  • Does your team have experience supporting children with similar needs as my child?
  • What can I do if I’m not happy with the support that is provided?
  • How long will therapy sessions run for?
  • What will the frequency of support be?

Using this simple checklist will start the right conversations with any potential therapy providers so that you can get a better understanding of how they will support your child and your family. Remember that in addition to these general questions, you should always ask questions relating to your child’s (and your family’s) unique situation, needs and goals.
