Since opening its doors in 2019, Xavier Place in Yeerongpilly has been a bright and welcoming home-away-from-home for children and young people with complex care needs. It’s a place where friendships grow, independence is encouraged and families know their child is supported in a safe and caring environment.

For parents and carers, Xavier Place provides a chance to rest, reconnect, study, or simply take a break. Now, families have even more choice with the introduction of Xavier Place Day Stay.

What is Xavier Place Day Stay?

Day Stay means children and young people can spend time at Xavier Place between 9am and 11pm for up to ten hours. During their stay, children enjoy socialising with friends and others their own age, explore activities and build confidence in a fun and supportive setting – while families have the opportunity to take time for themselves.

For one Xavier family, Day Stay has opened the door to precious moments together.

“With Day Stay, my husband and I were able to go out for lunch and even see a movie for the first time in years,” shares one Xavier mum. “It was such a joy to spend time together knowing our son was safe, cared for, and happy – because he loves going to Xavier Place. It means the world to us.”

Sandra Daniels, Xavier’s General Manager Clinical Services, says Day Stay was created in response to what families told us they needed.

“Caring for a child with complex needs is an around-the-clock role, and families often put their own wellbeing last,” Sandra explains. “Day Stay gives parents and carers the gift of time – while children and young people benefit from spending time with friends, developing independence, and engaging in activities designed to support their individual goals. The impact for families is truly life-changing.”

Day Stay is a flexible, NDIS-funded option available under support items 0104 (Assistance with Daily Life) and 0136 (Group and Centre Based Activities).
