Kelsy is a bright and joyful four-year-old who fills her family’s life with love and laughter. She enjoys playing with her sisters, exploring cause-and-effect toys and moving to the rhythm of her favourite music. Kelsy loves participating in everyday activities with her family, whether it's mealtimes, playtime or simply spending time together.

Support through therapy

Kelsy has been supported by the Xavier allied health team since 2021.

Her therapy sessions focus on finding thoughtful and practical ways to support Kelsy’s movement, daily activities, and communication. “We know that Kelsy’s greatest opportunities for learning and growth happen naturally through the everyday moments she shares with her family and support team,” explained Senior Physiotherapist Fiona. “We work closely with Kelsy’s family and support workers, focusing on building their confidence and skills so they can help Kelsy thrive in her daily routines.”

Fiona and Occupational Therapist Celina have been working together with Kelsy’s mum Yining to problem solve ways to support Kelsy to build her physical strength and improve her balance. “Fiona and Celina are wonderful and take a caring and collaborative approach. They advise us on ways that we can adapt our family home to help Kelsy,” said Yining.

Recently Kelsy has made remarkable progress in her participation in different activities throughout the day and learnt to lift her arms up to help her mum when it's time to get dressed.

Kelsy is also gaining confidence and learning to safely move up and down from the floor to standing which is foundational for her to develop safe independent mobility for the future.

Kelsy’s goals

Kelsy’s long term goals focus on building her independence and enhancing her ability to engage with the world around her. With the support of her family and Xavier’s allied health team, Kelsy is working towards:

  • actively participating in mealtimes and dressing routines, growing her self-care skills
  • travelling with her family in a modified vehicle, allowing her to use her power wheelchair on family outings and holidays
  • using her power wheelchair in her community to enjoy her growing independence
  • expanding her communication skills, through her voice, PODD, or key signs to connect with friends at school and church
  • having fun and engaging in learning experiences during swimming and music activities

Kelsy’s progress is a testament to her resilience and determination. Every milestone that she achieves is a step towards a future where she can participate in life in ways that bring her happiness and fulfillment.

Keep shining Kelsy, we are so proud of you. We can’t wait to see all that you achieve!
